I retired age 52 to care for my wife who was terminal. I rolled 401k into and ira. I had no pension since i took such an early retirement it was discounted so far i just took a small lump sum which was also rolled into ira.

no social security and no other income i set up early withdrawal from the ira under substantially equal payments until age 62. this action eliminated any penalty for early withdrawal.

I set up a size of withdrawal to take care of anticipated inflation and other financial needs for the next ten years.

My withdrawal was much larger than early requirements and a portion of the money went into savings and stocks.

imo you have to be very disciplined to follow this program.
