Novartis unit says considering DeKalb bid CHICAGO, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Novartis Seeds, a division of Novartis AG [OTC BB:NVTSY - news], said Friday it is considering bidding for DeKalb Genetics Corp (DKB - news), the nation's second largest seed company. ''We are considering a bid but we haven't said yet whether or not we are going to make a bid,'' John Gehring, communications manager at Novartis Seeds in Minnesota, said in a telephone interview.
DeKalb said on Wednesday it would consider buyout or merger offers. Monsanto Co (MTC - news), which owns 40 percent of DeKalb, has also expressed interest in buying the seed company. ------- Elizabeth - you're right, I should have used the another word like "product" instead. ---- I had the feeling that Novartis might be interested in Dekalb. I also have a position in Monsanto, so whoever ends up with (providing it is one of those two) is okay by me. |
