Hi kidl,

Usually not with GM.

In the case of a very complex part, it is sometimes better to have a factory reman assembly vs. having a technician (who may not have the training or essential tools that a factory has).

I'd venture that with thdanger of a bad battery and the associated liability involved, they opt for a factory quality remanufactured assembly.

GM does that on beyond warranty policy repairs.

If a component has an inordinately high failure rate. they'll do remanned to save money.

Often they'll write owners with a vehicle that might possibly experience a failure and let them know if aproblem is encountered, there is an extneded policy period where the repair would be completed at the factory expense.

Multiple failures of the same component (3 times or more) can be the result of the real problem not being diagnosed and repaired.

Documentation of repairs done by the factory during warranty should be retained and if not satisfactorily repaired eithe the lemon law might apply or in GM's case manditory obligation through the BBB arbitration is an excellent and quick process. GM supports this process and if they see an owner has been unduly inconvenienced, tey will pursue a biuyback of the vehicle even befor e the arbitration process is undertaken.

I'm not sure at all what TSLA's procedures are.

GM wants happy customers and spends many millions in policy repais.

Once a car is bought bacl, it must be fixed properly. The vehicle then is sold to GM dealers via a closed auction for dealers only and the car is sold a a buyback unit which includes a branded title and a substantial penalty to the vehicles value..

Done civily, it is a suprerior way to andle tough technical problems.

In the long run it is much cheaper than having attorneys and the legal court process.

I hope that helps!

Bob
