Eric,
Renewables (especially solar PV) are scaling rapidly and will produce the majority of electrical power on the planet before the next century arrives.
No it won't. The reality of solar and wind power is that they're too costly and inefficient. Even offshore wind, something that I once believed in because of its economies of scale, is proving to be too expensive:

As renewable-energy demand soars amid extreme heat, rising costs are making offshore wind projects so expensive that ‘it doesn’t make sense to continue’ (Fortune)

Now maybe we can make them more efficient and reliable if we come up with revolutionary leaps in utility-scale batteries.

And maybe we can make EVs more viable outside of the luxury car market if we come up with a similar revolutionary leap in vehicle-sized batteries.

As of now, though, it's just not economically viable.

Otherwise you'd be able to convince the developing regions of China, India, and Africa to go 100% "renewable" based on claims of it being more "cost-efficient" than coal.
