That is a great story to teach. Napoleon's failure in Haiti also prompted him to offer the Louisiana Purchase to Jefferson (he was giving up on the Americas), which in turn expanded the new nation but also sowed the seeds for our own civil war over slavery.

History is too interesting to rely on Hollywood treatments.
