Sure-Thing Portfolio! No Way to Lose! - Fortune Street Life March 2, 1998 pathfinder.com
Cisco is only networker in "Sure thing" Portfolio:
....Even so, I think I know of a sure thing. It's right there in front you: the growth of the Internet. It's incredibly obvious that more people are going to be using the Net five years from now than are using it today. Millions more. That's a sure thing.
Okay, so you belly up to the bar and buy Internet stocks. Those things!?! Most don't even have earnings!!! They're expensive!!! And worse, the group's last "sure thing" stock, Netscape, headed south for the winter (and maybe longer).
All true, but I didn't say every Internet stock was a sure thing, just the Internet concept. That's why you want to buy a bag of these stocks and stick with first-tier names. After consulting with analysts Keith Benjamin of Robertson Stephens, Mary Meeker at Morgan Stanley, and Paul Noglows at Hambrecht & Quist, I came up with a five-stock portfolio (see table) that I'm hoping will prove my thesis. We'll update the portfolio in future "Street Life" columns. And remember, I'm talking about a five-year time horizon, so don't flame me if they take a hit next month! (And you know enough not to take that headline literally, right?) |
