Why is 1948 the standard? Perhaps you would prefer re-establishing the Ottoman empire, or perhaps the Roman empire? Why not go back even further and give the land back to the Cannanites?

You choose a time reference which supports your preferences. That territory has changed hands forever. The jews were there long before there was any concept of palestinians existed.
