Dell'Oro Group Releases 4Q97 Report; Shared Hub and LAN Switch Market Grew 15% in 1997; Cisco, 3Com, Bay Networks and Cabletron Still Leaders - 08:59 a.m. Feb 17, 1998 Eastern PORTOLA VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 1998--Total sales of Shared Hubs and LAN Switches grew 15% in 1997 ($1.2 billion) to $9 billion, according to the Dell'Oro Group's fourth quarter report, published last week. Port shipments grew 31% (22 million ports) in 1997 to 92 million. Port shipments of LAN Switches continue to show triple digit growth (155% over 1996), reaching 22 million, while sales revenue increased 50% to $5.7 billion during 1997. Several companies showed notable growth in 1997. Intel grew from less than $20M to an excess of $76M in sales of both Switched and Shared 100 Mbps Ethernet. Cisco increased its market share, capturing 23% of 1997 overall sales revenue versus 15% in 1996, driven by the Catalyst 5000. 3Com more than doubled its share of overall port shipments.
