Good Morning EL,

I find it strange that the concept of gardening escapes so many people.

I grew up doing chores on my Dad's garden. As a farm boy he always had a garden. As a banker he had a garden as it was his escape and passion. Iview it as a source of nutrition and my annual deer hunting as a source of organic protein.

My city slicker wife at first turned her nose up at eating venison. Now she suggests it. We have bought a vacuum sealer and pack butterfly tenderloins and ground venison mixed with rib eye roast tallow.. I buy 2 to 3 18 pound ribeye roasts a year and cut them into 1 to 1.25 inch steaks (vacuum pack those as well).

It has minimized our impact from inflated food prices (not eliminated but minimized the additional expense).

Gardens don't have to be large. While renting as we started out our marriage, we always had a garden. "Square Foot Gardening" is an excellent book to read about how to really use every inch of a patio or small food plot snuck in amongst landscaping plants.

Still to this day, I plant pepper plants and kohlrabi in my landscaping on the corner of downtown Howards Grove. Everybody laughs about it as they walk by the busy corner. LOL

In my Houston home I have citrus trees and pepper plants every year.

It's fun to do and saves $$$$

The smart ones will learn to be more self sufficient.

Perhaps it just takes time to remove the fears in life, that occur from being raised in an over nurtured early life?

Bob
