Re. 100 Gigajoules, the key to avoiding electrocution is use insulated tools and gloves if you have to do work around live circuits. Otherwise, isolate the energy source by removing the fuse or tripping the breaker.

It doesn’t take that much electrical energy to kill you. Just 7 mA across the heart will do the job. So, your fears are justified.
