Company Press Release Coopers & Lybrand Teams with CyberGuard to Provide Quality Certification Authority Services to Large Telecommunications Company CyberGuard's eSP Partner Program Achieves Early Success in Digital Certificate Markets FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 1998-- CyberGuard Corporation (NASDAQ:CYBG - news), a leading provider of network security and electronic commerce solutions, today announced that its new eCommerce Service Provider (eSP) Program has met with early success. CyberGuard has recently won a competitive procurement through one of its leading eSP partners, The Coopers & Lybrand Center for Excellence for Cryptography and Electronic Commerce Security, to provide certificate authority services to a large telecommunications company. Phase I of a multi-phase project is currently underway.
CyberGuard's eSP Program, launched in November of 1997, provides qualified system integrators with fully functional digital certificates that they can use to create solutions to help their customers conduct safe and secure eCommerce. eSP members enjoy benefits including personalized certificates and 'certified web' space, and access to sales and technical support so they may quickly create low cost, manageable, secure web versions of business-to-business eCommerce applications for their customers. End users get immediate access to cost saving tools and technologies, and CyberGuard is able to spread the cost of operating a highly secure certificate authority across a broader base of users.
''We are excited, but not surprised, by the success of our eSP Program,'' explained Tom Patterson, vice president of electronic commerce for CyberGuard Corporation. ''By providing businesses with a fully operational digital certificate authority almost immediately, we have provided both the ease of use and customer control that is required to do business on the Internet today.''
''Being part of CyberGuard's eSP Program gives us access to proven digital certificate technology directly from the people that helped create the certificate authority business,'' noted Jeffery Zimmerman, Director of Coopers & Lybrand's Center for Excellence for Cryptography and Electronic Commerce Security. ''This technology allows us to provide our customers with business solutions that can reduce their time-to-market and generate significant savings. And since we focus on business-to-business electronic commerce, CyberGuard's certificate authority products and services are a better fit for many companies over competitive solutions such as Verisign (NASDAQ:VRSN - news), especially since effective certificate revocation capability is paramount.''
Since 1993, CyberGuard's TradeWave Division has been operating its commercial certificate authority, making digital certificate software and services specifically for companies looking to reduce costs and empower their employees to do business over the Internet. Rather than requiring a third party to 'validate' employees, the CyberGuard solution allows companies to become their own certificate authority in less than 48 hours.
''CyberGuard already operates one of the world's largest certificate authorities for business, and the recent IPO of Verisign has brought new awareness to this important enabling technology behind electronic commerce,'' noted Kama Krishna, financial analyst with Laidlaw Equities in New York.
The eSP Program is comprised of three categories: large consulting firms, systems integrators with emerging eCommerce groups, and small companies focusing on the electronic commerce market. eSP is designed to support them all equally, by use of its interactive 'certified web' server. To date, CyberGuard has approximately twelve eSP partners. esp.tradewave.com is a complete sales, marketing and technical resource for eSP partner companies. The site features a proposal response generator, technical documentation and information, and a pricing configurator.
