That was a good episode of NOVA. By the way I had the pleasure in the engineering dept. of airing for broadcast the very first episode of NOVA when it premiered on PBS way back in May of 1975. The video head rotated at 14,400 rpm on air bearings for an effective head writing speed of about 1000" ips on two inch wide video tape.
