I would say that Grommit is choosing a period that supports his own argument.

Below are those 3 sectors over a longer term, i.e. 10 years. IMO one invests in an overall Index such as these as if it's a "Retirement Investment", after all these are Major units of the Stock Market and one is not just "stock picking".

If we consider their performance in terms of Compound Interest we get ----->

NYSE (NYA) = ~5.3% Compound per annum

NASDAQ (COMP) = ~14.1% Compound per annum

SP500 (SPX) = ~10.2% Compound per annum

They each have that "down-up" move over the last 2 years, but that is certainly not indicative of their overall performances.

Personally I would invest 60% COMP and 40% SPX for the long term.
