ZDR,

I don't have a subscription to Bloomberg so I can't read this article

bloomberg.com

but it was linked to on ped30. PED's excerpt on the article is definitely a strange tale. This is a snip from the ped30 piece

<<Lawyers for Masimo say that Lamego lacked prior knowledge about how to develop the blood-oxygen feature (his previous studies were about neural interfaces rather than health sensors). He learned how to build the technology [at Cercacor] and delivered it to Apple, they say.>>

Essentially, as I understand it from the ped30 article, this guy Lamego came to Apple with the idea of pulse oximetry on the watch. He was at Apple briefly and may have left after a brief stint at Apple because he may not have fit in is one of the things being thrown about.

One of the interesting things for me is that Apple has definitely had its share of patents which have been invalidated, especially when the iPhone and some of its other devices came out so I think that is part of their business strategy right now. Wasn't swipe to open an Apple patent that was invalidated?
