Masimo, a relatively obscure maker of medical devices based in Irvine, California

(Revenue: 1.24 billion USD 2022)

Interesting story... a billion dollar company is relatively obscure now

Presumably Apple's technical people and lawyers looked at Masimo's patents and thought they weren't strong enough, and hired Lamego thinking they'd win a lawsuit with this pipsqueek company or... they could do a tech end run around them if they lost a lawsuit and by then they'd OWN the health device market... or they could get away eventually buying the tech for cheap intimidating Masimo with their phalanx of lawyers and the complexity of the technology.

I mean they had to know a lawsuit would be coming and they no doubt considered all possible outcomes... or...

Lamego is/was a very good bullshitter who fooled them. That's hard to imagine/swallow.

The fact he didn't last long at Apple is instructive and raises questions. Obviously he thought he was worth a lot more money and power than Apple was eventually willing to give him. They hired him but had second thoughts or realized he wasn't the genius they thought he was, or he just had Masimo's tech and they knew it all along.

One would think at this point Apple is so huge and powerful doing an end run around a pipsqueek company like Masimo would not be a problem...

Qualcomm yes, hundreds of patents... Masimo not a problem.

I don't post much here because I'm more interested in the tech stuff than the P/E, dividend, etc story.

But Apple is so huge nobody really knows what's going on inside. That's a good story now.
