What?????

Bass and Pettis fellow travelers?

I don't think so.

The video you posted is an interview by Bass of Pettis.

Bass barely expressed his views (whatever they are) while Pettis engaged in a highly sophisticated analysis, one which is likely spot on.

Basically, Pettis believes that China will go down the road of Japan, Brazil, and the Soviet Union because its development model has run its course. It needs to change but it won’t because the model has served an elite very well. This elite will not allow the model to change because doing so will mean losses. Stagnation is the result.

All signs point to the correctness of Pettis’s views.

A controlled economy is a recipe for disaster.

Chinese leadership’s megalomania and triumphalism don’t help. Neither does relentless propaganda.

It will take time, but China’s path is set. Not in a good way.
