Qone0, All a president can really do is issue a few inconsequential executive orders that never have any real effect on most peoples lives. These "executive orders" will be part of the train wreck.
Just to clarify, however, I don't believe that the American republic will collapse as a result of said train wreck.
Federalism is still very much alive. State and local governments by and large have a good handle on many aspects of administration.
And like you implied, our economic institutions are also very robust and stable. They don't need the government to do anything but set limits.
But what will happen in the White House and Congress will be a spectacular breakdown in functionality. Even last year was a very "unproductive" one for Congress, and I don't see things improving in the near-to-mid term.
As for the White House, no one believes Brandon is in charge of anything. Even if he gets re-elected, the White House will simply be seen as a rubber-stamp machine. No one will have ANY confidence whatsoever in Brandon's ability to lead. And that will matter once the next crisis comes around, whether it be yet another war in a foreign country, or another recession, or another pandemic, etc.
But if Trump wins, it gets even worse as he becomes 100% unhinged. Then it'll be up to Congress, the Supreme Court, and even the states to stop him from usurping power and basically trying to make water run up a river.
TL;DR - Brandon vs. Trump The Sequel illustrates EVERYTHING that is wrong with our nation today.
