You couldn’t have posted this article at a (for me) more appropriate time. Just yesterday we had a “dog party” in our backyard due to unique circumstances which would take too much time to explain. The short version: 3 dogs (different ages from puppy to senior(, different breeds) from two of our neighbours ended up going nose to nose with our two Shepherds in what turned out an hour plus long hopefully educational lesson for our two neighbours who don’t allow their dogs to socialize for a variety of IMHO idiotic reasons. Fear of conflict being the main one. Yes, there was conflict but it only took a couple of firm “cool it” interventions to sort it out. I am hopeful but certainly not convinced that this hour will change the owners’ attitude. It would make their dogs lives so much better. PS: My neighbours are not unique in their “protective/ fearful” stance. 90% of dog walkers I meet do their utmost to prevent any possible dog interaction. “Oh shit, two big Shepherds”. They immediately have visions of vet bills. The ones which get past this, have usually only one question: “How do I get my canine to listen to my commands?”
