Ethylene C2H4 is gas extracted from natural gas used to ripen fruit and converted into ethylene oxide to make polyethylene plastic films.

Ethylene oxide rapidly binds with water to create the toxic antifreeze mono ethylene glycol. Exxon makes MEG its end product because it's cheaper to ship. But it's extremely energy costly to extract the water to convert MEG back into ethylene dioxide. file:///C:/Users/norms/Downloads/79957_source.pdf

Propylene C3H6 is an extremely toxic and carcinogenic gas extracted by Chevron Phillips, but when mixed with moisture or water i becomes the completely safe antifreeze used in food, propylene glycol which is also used to make other plastics and resins like polypropylene or used as a fumigant to kill bacteria on hospital equipment or food like almonds.
