Since I destroy everyone each year in the playoff pool (since that's what really counts toward bragging rights), I have a way to make the pool -- I think -- a bit more fun and closer.
Basically we currently award 2/3/6/12 points per round. That means someone who bets against a team in the first three rounds can pick them in the SB as a Hail Mary pass just to gain 12 points, and win. There's way more skill picking the SB winner from the get-go.
Therefore, we pick all the games as in past years against the spread. However, we add in the ability to pick the flat-out NFC and AFC champs, plus the Super Bowl winner, in each of the prior rounds. The scoring is reversed. In round one, you get 12 points for guessing the SB winner; 6 points for picking the conference champs. In round two, you get 6 points for the SB winner, and 3 points for picking the conference champs. In the third round, you get 3 points for picking the SB winner.
Or we can just try one or the other approach only. Thoughts?
