Joachim,
Obama echoes this sentiment
How exactly is Obama echoing the sentiment of "Render unto Caesar"?

The whole point of what Jesus said is that we should NOT care about the taxes we pay to government.

This was in response to the Pharisees, who tried to trap him by asking, "Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar?"

They thought that, if Jesus said yes, the people who were following him would be discouraged because Roman taxes were hugely unpopular (sound familiar?), but if Jesus said no, they could arrest him and charge him with treason (sound familiar?).

The question had nothing to do with Caesar, or even Obama as the modern-day analog to Caesar.

Instead, the question had everything to do with what the true followers of Christ are entitled to with regard to wealth and possessions.
