Some time around Y2K, on the old EW thread, I made a calculation - if you bought the 1966 top, how long would it take to get your money back in constant dollars, plus a return equal to government bonds.

I was surprised - it took until some time in the mid-1990’s.

I don't remember what method or info I used. The major factor was inflation - during the period from the mid-60’s until the early 80’s, while the market went nowhere, the Dollar lost about 70% of its purchasing power.

To get stuck in a major Bear is no fun.

As Jay says, a little flexibility can go a long way.
