Crazy weather day yesterday!

Around 1 pm I looked out the window and noticed the cloud was thickening and the wind was starting to pick up. When I looked again 15 minutes later there was a blizzard with the snow blowing horizontally left to right, a few minutes later switching to horizontally right to left, then a few minutes later switching back.

Only a few inches of snow fell, but the instant freeze that came with the cold winds turned it into ice, leading to thousands of vehicle accidents across the Lower Mainland, a few involving dozens of vehicles. Today the entire province will be below freezing, an unusual event for us, and although it will gradual warm through the weekend, it looks like we won't be back into the normal rain till mid-week next week.

But of the course the real weather issues are further north, in a wide band across Yukon, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and further the temperatures have dropped to -40C, even -50C in some places, very very dangerous. Especially with the wind, frostbite can hit within minutes, and it doesn't take long to die either.
