Scotty Kilmer is a mechanic beloved on youtube by people who buy used cars or maintain their own cars or just people who are trying to buy a decent new car.

Including me. (Caveat - after years of it, he's gettin' old and kind of coasting on his rep now)

Anyway in comparing US automakers to Toyota he stated "Ford et al redesign their cars every year, so they run into all sorts of unexpected problems, Toyota is conservative, they incrementally improve old designs." In other words "They just work."

So Toyotas generally have far fewer problems and used Toyotas sell for 2x what used Fords go for.

For myself I probably would have bought 3 new Macs over the past 12 years were it not for the fact I think they in all cases weren't as good as the software and iMac I use now are superior to the new ones in some fundamental ways. In fact I bought a used 2013 for a backup. I would have bought a newer used machine but if I remember correctly Apple made upgrading their hard drive to SSDs impossible.

LogicPro really needs an SSD drive to run without spinning beach balls and out of memory messages even when there's plenty of RAM space open.

So the upshot is Apple lost cash flow from me, for the sake of profit margin... even though they have no real competitor. I did buy a fair good Chromebook for surfing the web... Its done its job for 1/2 the price of a Mac laptop. So that's 4 potential sales Apple lost.

And I switched over to Sony music players. I have 3. They don't downsample music like bluetooth, they have mini plugs. They also have 500Gb cards.

This is anecdotal info of course Apples still makin' mountains of money...

I'm still trying to put off buying a new Mac... I will in a year or two but mostly to surf the web. I don't want to go through the giant software hassles you folks are talking about. Computers are supposed to make life easier not make big time consuming headaches.
