Good post, longz. A heat pump isn't what it's cracked up to be. Sure, it might be more efficient in milder conditions. But the upfront cost is just too high. It's the same deal with these high-efficiency water heaters. Nice but certainly not worth the higher upfront cost. And anything that "pays for itself in 10-20 years" isn't worth getting, unless you're like me and you can afford the latest-n-greatest technology for the sake of being eco-chic. Plenty of people here in the SF Bay Area are like that, by the way. But then again, we can afford to be. (Well, kind of, but that's another story.) Tenchusatsu
