Spotters filmed and documented the Hamas training exercises according to a December article in the New York Times. In Bibi's mind, the attack gave the Israelis the right to annihilate the Gazans. They view the war as an existential threat, with the loser likely to be wiped out. A serious miscalculation because a regional war does not favor Israel or the USA. Egypt knows the stakes involved, the Rafah border crossing is pretty much impenetrable now.
