The only difference between a dedicated central AC unit and a heat pump/AC unit is the addition of a reversing solenoid valve on the outside compressor/condenser.

When I priced out the Goodman 55,000 BTU (5 ton) versions the additional cost if I remember correctly was about $150. That's for the indoor air handler and the outside compressor/ evaporator unit.

And as you know an air conditioner is just a heat pump dumping heat outside.

A refridgerator as you also know is a heat pump.

The Seattle area had very few AC units installed here but after the June 2021 heat wave sales have gone through the roof and folks are ditching their old NG furnaces.

All I can say I was cool as a cucumber during that heat wave and just thankful that I spent the extra $150!

What manufacturing brand is your AC?
