US Navy Selects CACI and IAI for Year 2000 Compliance at Naval Ordnance Center
UNICAST/2000(TM) to Provide Highly Automated Conversion of 1.2 M Lines of Code
FAIRFAX, Va., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CACI International Inc. (Nasdaq: CACI - news) and Information Analysis Incorporated (Nasdaq: IAIC - news) today announced a statement of work on an existing contract by the US Navy, to provide Year 2000 remediation to the Naval Ordnance Center's (NOC) CAIMS (Conventional Ammunition Integrated Management System) at Mechanicsburg, Pa. CACI, the prime contractor, and IAI will convert 1.2 million lines of code at IAI's Year 2000 conversion factory in Fairfax, Va.
''IAI's automated UNICAST/2000 product and conversion factory provided us with quick turn-around, good price, and CA-IDMS expertise,'' said Jim Davis, CAIMS department manager, NOC's Inventory Management and Systems Division. ''IAI's factory was a better alternative to us than dedicating scarce, in-house resources to this project. This gives my people more time to help our customers with ongoing support issues.'' NOC uses CAIMS to manage the distribution of ammunition to naval units throughout the world. The CAIMS application is written in CA-ADS and CA-IDMS COBOL code.
CACI is providing end-to-end project management for the CAIMS effort. The company's Year 2000 experts also will help write the remediation plan and provide support for compliance testing of the converted system. An alliance between Computer Associates (CA), CACI and IAI (announced 9/22/97), combines CA's Discovery 2000 and CACI's leading methodology and service offerings, with IAI's unique date remediation and software conversion resources, to provide a comprehensive, integrated Year 2000 solution.
''The level of accuracy and automation demonstrated by UNICAST/2000 for CA- ADS was critical to the Navy's decision to proceed with the CACI/IAI team on this vital project,'' said Stan Reese, IAI's vice president for Year 2000 services. ''For this endeavor, the Navy has undertaken the appropriate measures to accelerate their Year 2000 compliance, preventing an adverse impact on readiness and accelerating the testing process. UNICAST/2000 automated software has the ability to remediate over 95% of their code automatically with little manual intervention.''
CA and IAI have a worldwide agreement to develop, market and support automated date remediation products for the widely-implemented 4GL and information retrieval products, CA-ADS, CA-IDMS COBOL, CA-Easytrieve and CA- Ideal.
''The federal and commercial CA-ADS and IDMS COBOL user community represents a substantial customer base for CACI and IAI, and we are very pleased to be able to offer them a comprehensive and cost effective solution to meet their Year 2000 challenge,'' said Michael Guido, CACI's senior vice president in charge of Year 2000 business.
''The Computer Associates/CACI/Information Analysis partnership clearly demonstrates CA's responsiveness to the escalating needs and concerns of our governmental and commercial clients regarding Year 2000 compliance issues,'' commented Mark Stabler, CA vice president and Year 2000 Business Unit Executive.
IAI's Solution Factory is a state-of-the-art, large-volume production environment, that provides fully-integrated end-to-end Year 2000 services (planning, assessment, remediation and testing), utilizing UNICAST/2000 products and tools for ensuring that critical applications are fixed quickly and accurately.
UNICAST/2000(TM) (Universal Computer Aided Software Translator), is an integrated, mature set of advanced conversion tools, developed over a 17 year span, which have been enhanced to automate Year 2000 date remediation in a wide array of operating environments. UNICAST/2000 for CA-ADS is the first in a series of commercially available solutions to automate Year 2000 date remediation in CA software languages.
