I am loving "Melancholia" on Netflix, it is sooo good I have been binge watching it for two days-lol. Little sleep-lol.

The thing about many Korean dramas is that they have a back story if you look i.e. they are addressing social issues using cinema.

Korea like much of the world is going through a period we went through in the 60's of getting rid of primitive ideologies like racism, sexism, homophobia and patriarchal societies,

Korea is still struggling with a centuries old patriarchal society that is really hard on females and children.

It is a huge battle, but you can see the good guys are winning.

Korea has one of the lowest birth rates in the world because women do not want to marry misogynistic men; and they are educated enough to fight them, and they do in a lot of Korean cinema.

Korea is one of the most highly educated countries in the world rubbing up against a hard core centuries old patriarchal society.

Liberal versus conservative.

This script is really done well and very complex and never runs down hill.

Happy New year!

P.S. you will also notice how sophisticated and humane the two hero's are.

That is because of high caliber writers.
