Can you imagine where we'd be if instead of subsidizing the oil industry with out military in the 50s, we had spent that money on developing solar and becoming energy independent?
We're already energy independent. The shale oil revolution has brought us into a position where we are now a net exporter of energy. None of that required any government subsidies.

Meanwhile solar isn't what it's cracked up to be. Otherwise China would already be there, given how cheaply they produce solar panels. They're still importing oil and coal from foreigners, especially RuZZia and North Korea.
