Seemed the GOP donors used to be big business
and management,

Actually not true. In the 70's the dims had owned Congress for a long time. I was shocked, but the most $ from big business went to the dims. It was probably more pay to play or outright extorsion. It also varied by industry. I recalled readinf a WJF article that differentiated th donations back in 70'd / 80's. When the reps owned both houses it may have shifted. The lasy one that I saw, the only top 20 business donor that gave more to GOP was T.

I recall having my annual lunch with my CEO in the 90's. We had hired some consultants for advice as we were becoming much larger. One of the recommendations was that our firm donate politically. The dims come for industries that do not pay up and individual firms that don't play get visits from lots of regulators.

The bigeest donor to GOP was small business which they pretty much abandoned.
