Yes Windows '98 and NT 5.0 will be important products affecting earnings. But, I have read in PC Week a concern that not as many companies as would be expected are as inclined to make the switch to these new products in light of the demand for resources for the Year 200 problem. In other words, the tech budgets may be shifted away from some software upgrades to address the more pressing concerns. This makes sense in light of the fact that Win95 works fine and the historic MSFT trend of new product releases being late and sometimes buggy. Thus, would you commit your company to Win98 or NT 5.0 if your system is working well, or would you address the "potential" disaster of Year 2000. I just wish there was enough $ for all concerns, but the fact of the matter is that corporations have to make buying decisions.

All speculation, of course, but I think it wise to assess reasons why the growth rate from the past may or may not continue at the same rate if one is thinking about buying MSFT at the recent prices.
