Eric, wayyyy back in 1986, when I was BP Oil International product development advisor for gasoline, I decided that electric cars had so much advantage that they were bound to take over. I did not include CO2 panic as I did not think it a problem. Just the consumer advantages of electric were enough. Toxic emissions were a bonus to ditch gasoline and diesel. But those were rapidly reducing due to engine and refining improvements.

The thing that surprised me was the amazing improvements the engine makers achieved. Even now, nearly 40 years later, petrol power is best for nearly everyone who has to use their own money. Even with free roads aka no mileage tax, and even with free money $8000 subsidy from dopey governments, few people buy electric.

With my small battery 7 Second Swap Stop service, electric cars would now win, but that's a work in progress. Tesla tried two minute one ton battery swaps but charging too much money, requiring appointments and not in handy locations meant it was unpopular.

BetterPlace did an even worse service so of course failed.

Your paralyzed checklist thinking fails too.

You have my sympathy with your need to do the personal false attacks. Childhood does set us up for such failures in life.

I have not yet bought an electric car. A wealthy friend has bought a couple of top end electric Mercedes and a smaller car for his wife. But it wasn't an economic decision. Regular humans need to save money.

I was a big photovoltaic fan club member in the 1980s too. BP Solar was big in it. But gave up. Now photovoltaic panels are big time in the right areas.
