But it wasn’t only dryers — nor block heaters — but a cluster of factors that sent Albertans scrambling to unplug in -35 C cold on Jan. 13, when they received piercing grid alerts on their cellphones, laptops and big-screen TVs, warning of imminent rolling power outages.
