That is interesting that you can understand the instructional videos much better than sports or news. Communication starts from the information to be conveyed then is encoded in the acoustic speech and runs through your ears where you convert it back to information. You probably have a better idea of what they are talking about about what the next word will be so you need less of a hint to receive information.

Claude Shannon and sending information over a noisy channel. The worst information to convey has a huge degree of unexpectedness, the canonical example is "the ocean is on fire". The statement is wholly unexpected.

What if you watch a movie you are familiar with?

I have just lost all sensitivity above 6 kHz which is OK, I used to hear up to 21 kHz and could hear the ultrasonic motion detectors in jewelry stores. My son carries on the tradition and can hear the switch mode power supply in his toothbrush charger when it is unloaded.
