Regards,
*** OFF TOPIC ***
<<< why not compaq>>>

The purchase of a home PC is very emotional. I place a very high value on dependability. I do not want the PC to break-down. If it does, I want it to be fixed quickly. If it is under warranty, I want the manufacturer to pay for the service. I have at least a couple of bad experiences in each of these categories. Compaq used proprietary components and then I was not able to get replacement parts from retail outlets. PC components failed and I had to wait inordinately long for repair. Retailer who sold my friend the PC asked him to deal with Compaq directly, which turned out to be a pain. In the case of DELL - neither my friends, nor I, have had any problems.

When I needed support , I was speaking to knowledgeable persons. My son worked at a computer repair shop. His experience and that of my friends was that Compaq PC s were not as reliable as DELL. Sorry, I ramble on.

BTW, having said that, this thread is not about COMPAQ PCs alone. I am long on CPQ stock because I felt it will do well. I am hoping CPQ + DEC combination turns out to be even better.

regards
jag-dish
