A colleague of mine who works at Unisys today told me that the new integration of Unisys TIP and BEA TUXEDO, through another product known as BEA connect, has been going gangbusters. Busiest it has ever been.

Essentally, the Unisys IX4800 Clearpath machine is the upgrade for the old famous 2200. The Clearpaths have a Unisys side and a UNIX/NT side (Intel Chipset) and are being shipped with BEA TUXEDO as part of the deal. Any legacy tip transaction can be called from a BEA TUXEDO service (transaction) and vice-versa. In essence, it gives a current Unisys legacy system the power to become another "server" in a client/server architecture. PC clients running GUI applications built with Visual Basic, C++, Powerbuilder, Prolifics, etc. can now access legacy algorithms and data through this architecture. Or, it can be a WEB client. By-by, dumb terminals (and dumb terminal emulators).

From a technological standpoint, BEA Connect is the glue which marries these two worlds. I've used this setup and have seen it in action at one of my client's sites.

LONG BEA!

Cheers!
Ed.
