Alot of people "square" their positions ahead of long weekends then buy back the first chance they get. That way if any bad news comes out over the weekend they don't get slammed. Hence the up morning. I can think of several reasons for the afternoon weakness ie. Clinton remarks on Iran, Asian flu, options expiration etc. etc.
