>>Rod, I actually used a Zip drive with my E-Mu sampler a couple of months ago, and guess what? The damn thing clicked repeatedly (actually, more like a "clunk" or "thunk") and I panicked, thinking that all of my valuable work was gone. We switched out Zip drives, and was able to get the info off the disc. But any thought of buying a Zip drive went right out the window with my first hand knowledge that Zip is unreliable.
It is my opinion that many here are hiding their own personal experiences with this Click of Death problem, or are in denial.<<

So you didn't actually lose any data, did you?
Meanwhile, I can't speak for everyone here, but I have acknowledged that some Zip drives do become defective, and the clicking syndrome is one of the problems they can develop. Iomega has acknowledged this as well, and has explained why, despite what this most recent article says.
I'm not surprised that your opinion is that many of us on this thread are hiding our experiences or in denial, but may I suggest that there is another possiblity?
Perhaps it is only a small percentage of drives which exhibits this problem. That would explain why so many people report that they haven't had any trouble with their drives.
If you go to the website referred to in that article, you will find many messages from people who have had no problems at all. Go ahead. Check it out. Are they all in denial?
