I believe they use a crippled version of Android. China graduates a LOT more engineers than the US. I'm sure you know Android, iOS and OSX all started from UNIX. I don't see any impediments for them to improve their Android versions. Getting high end chip foundry machines is an impediment but who needs super high end chips for phones? The only reason I care about a faster phone is boot up time, which is not a big problem. Interfaces like Googlemap's shitty interface and advertisements are a way bigger problem even on Android. But they have street view. Apple gave up on that. I use it constantly on my computers. Youtube is becoming a problem with advertisements covering every square inch. But its still the king of "how to" videos and short video. I doubt I I'll ever buy into subscriptions for video. I don't suffer for free content. I'm definitely not interested in Apple's content. I HATE what Apple is doing to their computers. OSX is still the best... but soldering in SSDs just sucks. Worse you're stuck with it even on Macs that can have 2 SSDs but only have one. No adding last I looked.
