I once worked for an American Company in Scotland. To save money on water rates they decided to drill water wells on the property they owned. The local council waited until they completed the project before informing them they did not own the water, and to fill in the wells. An expensive lesson.

There are companies that bottle water in Scotland, but there is no water shortage. What is a bit weird, but an OK scam really, is you could only buy French bottled water in Scotland's Railways stations, and Scottish bottled water in French Railway stations. I don't know if that is still the case, but was true for a long period.
