fallen leaves and poor things:

1) re: fallen leaves by kaurismaki: "Eventually, i suspect that criterion will air these 3 late works. But it could take years."

bingo, i think, although mubi has been an advertising platform disguised as a streaming service so who knows what to think. i'll find out in a few days.

Among the more permanent selections are Mubi’s own releases. In recent years, the company began acquiring well-received films on the festival circuit, for both theatrical distribution and streaming, including Park Chan-wook’s riveting “ Decision to Leave,” Ira Sachs’s sensuous “ Passages” and AkiKaurismaki’s “ Fallen Leaves,” which won the Jury Prize at Cannes.

looks like nyt link is broken - - search on "nyt mubi"

yeah, they may be playing depending on where you live.

following a trend of alternative platforms streaming oscar or bafta "quality" stuff, e.g.

a) past lives on kanopy - - disappointing. one sentence plot. good cinematography in nyc. great lead.

b) all of us strangers - - hulu ( RT 96 critics; 92 audience, which is rare) i almost stopped 30 minutes in. so i read what i was missing. then it made sense. if you like slow moving, thoughtful and serious, as i do, you'll like it. it's about someone dealing with trauma. reminds me of a famous film on a related subject with 2 famous actors. the leads here are quite good- - andrew scott and paul mescal.

2) re: epicure's comment: - - "I really want to see Poor Things", hulu to the rescue next week:

Since its premiere on December 8, Yorgos Lanthimos's Poor Things has been pretty damn successful the box office, earning $100 million worldwide. Variety reports the film is the second arthouse title to accomplish the feat since the pandemic, coming in second place to Everything Everywhere All at Once. That's not the only good news—Hulu just announced that the film will hit the platform on March 7.

esquire.com

after watching the trailer, not for me. " Not a comedy, not a drama, just a mess.", according to a real critic." and another from a real critic "The basic response to any Yorgos Lanthimos film is repulsion. Anyone delighted by Poor Things, his smirky, smutty uglification of The Bride of Frankenstein, falls for his usual depravity." whoa.

otoh, most people love it.
