The Third Eye (Det tredje øyet) S02

The Third Eye is a Norwegian crime drama that lasted two seasons. I first came across it shortly after the first season came out. Since this was before the days of streaming services, I was only able to access a version with lousy English subs, which I proceeded to turn into proper English and post on-line, where each episode’s subs has been downloaded over a hundred times.

Eventually a version of the first season with broadcaster English subs arrived. I am happy to report that after doing some comparisons, mu subs do hold up; in far they are often better at the colloquialisms. But until recently, even through all the sources I have developed I was unable to find a watchable version of Season 2. (All the versions I had found had hard subs in other languages.) But now a proper version of Season 2 of The Third Eye has arrived, so I am finally able to pick up the story and learn what happened.

It is a measure of how much I liked this show that I watched it in spite of what is usually a no-go for me, a supernatural element, which for me undercuts the whole premise of crime series. You look for the protagonist to use their wits and bravado to solve what has happened, which a by definition inexplicable supernatural element completely undercuts.

The story line for the first season concerns a police detective searching for his missing daughter while solving various interesting crimes along the way. He does from time to time get visions which help him solve the crimes, which I rationalized as effects of a plot twist which doesn’t arrive till Season 2. Yes, kind of lame, but the series is so well scripted, acted, and directed that I was willing to overlook what I would normally see as a fatal flaw.

Season Two further unravels the mystery of what happened to his daughter while adding in several other engrossing mysteries to be solved. I recommend tracking down both seasons. If you can only find the first season without proper English, send me a message and I will show you where to get the ones I made.
