todd, I think that's a good decision you are making to sell some shares on a good move on a stock. I know that many of us want to be long term investors and that's fine. But if you never sell stock I think you end up with a situation where you can have a stock go against you a wonder why you didn't realize a little gain. I've had many situations where I have had a good gain only to find out that the stock sells off near my buy point. Many times it's not even related to the company and due to sector rotation, a down market etc. If you look at most insiders or people high up in a company with many shares of their stock, they tend to take some off the table. Didn't Farrell sell recently? I don't think they do it thinking they are outsmarting the market rather they want to lock in a gain for the time they have spent holding shares. I think we have all learned a little of this since the market crash, and to realize that another correction will come sometime. Maybe not for a couple of months, but it will come. Yes you can sit through it all, but I think sometimes taking profits shows that you are willing to take the gain you have been waiting for and are not greedy that it may go higher.
