For something to move a force is needed. Then it accelerates.

If it moves at the acceleration of gravity, it means there was nothing stopping it from moving in the downwards direction. .

Therefore every single steel column started falling at the speed of gravity at the same moment, give or take a few milliseconds. If they didn't one or more of them would have created a resisting force.

Steel columns weakened from fires, melted, or whatever. Every single SOB column started falling at the acceleration of gravity at the same time.

Get a high school physics student explain it to you if needed.
