In Rat's world, an ER doc walked into the room one night in '08, and said, "Bush just broke the world."
Rat thinks it was oil prices, led by a spike in demand as China prepared for the Olympics, which led to higher variable mortgage rates, leading to foreclosures, etc. Either way, unlike the S&L scandal, nobody was prosecuted, except maybe Madoff. I think that was a mistake.
