Tenchu's Thoughts: How Is This "Self-Defense"?

JoCo GOP event where you could bludgeon effigy of Biden was awful, and awfully Trumpy | Opinion (Kansas City Star)

Never mind the politics of it. Punching, kicking, stomping on, or burning an effigy of some political leader you hate is common all across the world.

However, I just wanted to focus on this part of the article:
Holiday told the board in an email that the “booth was hosted by a Karate school to promote their self defense class."
That's just wrong. Really, kicking an 81-year-old man who can barely find his way to the toilet without someone holding his hand is "self defense"?

What kind of "karate" is being practiced here, because it's not the traditional Okinawan-style that the word karate is associated with. NO ONE who practices that style of karate would EVER endorse something like this.

Maybe the "karate school" in question is Cobra Kai, whose slogan is "STRIKE FIRST, STRIKE HARD, NO MERCY, SIR!"

Or maybe the school teaches what Mike Myers calls the Scottish martial art of "FUK YU," which basically consists of headbutting and then kicking people while they're on the ground:

Either way, whichever "Karate school" set this thing up should be ashamed of themselves.
