Wharfie,
We're already walking, but is the pace fast enuf? We'll find out in 2050, but, in addition to walking and mass transit, it will also mean driving EVs.
At the risk of bitching too much (because that's what Tenchu does), I want to say that this whole push toward mandating EVs is a load of crap, even from an environ-mentalist perspective.

In terms of reducing our "carbon shoe size," walking and taking mass transit all over the place beats driving around an EV by tons of CO2.

So why don't we do just that? Create mass transit systems that rival those of New York and Tokyo, then make driving just as unappealing as it is in those two cities.

The truth is that we Californians are spoiled-ass hypocrites. We'd rather drive around EVs than sacrifice our car-centric lifestyles.

And the rest of the world sees our hypocrisy. Why should they listen to us when it comes to lifestyles?

The only way we can lead the world is through technology, but surprise! Technology advances via free-market capitalism, not government mandates that Newsom prefers.
