BC,
I actually favor foreign aid if it's the non-lethal variety
That's the trick, isn't it? Can't deliver non-lethal aid when there are parties involved who want to kill or scare away the aid workers.

Black Hawk Down was one of the best and most brutal examples of non-lethal foreign aid turning into a military intervention that went completely FUBAR. That was almost 30 years ago, but it had a profound impact on our foreign policy in Africa.

Seems like Brandon is going to repeat history with his idea of a floating pier in Gaza:

Why is the US setting up temporary port off Gaza for aid deliveries? (Al Jazeera)

No U.S. soldier will set foot on Gaza, but who's going to protect the aid workers there as they deliver TWO MILLION meals per day? There is a clear risk of that logistical pipeline being attacked by Hamas.

As for Haiti, I'd rather we either go in hot, or stay cold. Both directions require leadership, even the "Do Nothing" part since the resulting humanitarian crisis will wash up upon our shores.
