Globe says director sold stock ahead of share decline Newbridge Networks Corporation NNC Shares issued 173,670,862 Feb 17 close $33.45 Wed 18 Feb 98 In the News The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, February 18, edition that Newbridge Networks insider and director Peter Madsen sold more than US$5.7 million worth of stock almost two months before the firm shocked analysts with a warning that its third quarter results will be significantly lower than expected. The Globe's Lawrence Surtees writes that Mr Madsen is the fifth Newbridge director in less than a year to report substantial insider trades ahead of share price declines posted by the company. Mr Madsen sold 162,839 shares or 40 per cent of his holding of 408,027 shares on December 10 1997, according to the latest insider trading report filed with the OSC, at an average price $35.35. That was well before Newbridge stunned investors on February 3 with an earnings shortfall warning. The warning triggered a 23 per cent, single day decline in Newbridge's share price.
